Simba vs Eve: Which Should You Buy?

That leaves Simba, which is still trading and one of the most heavily advertised mattress brands in Britain.

Two things are worth doing on this page. Understanding what Simba's hybrid construction actually is, because the word does a great deal of work in its marketing. And understanding what Eve's collapse should teach you about buying from any young brand, Simba included.

What Simba's hybrid actually is

Aerocoils are 25 millimetre micro-springs in the comfort layer, sitting on a foam base. That is a spring layer. It is not a spring core, and what holds your hips up at 3am is foam.

Compare a deep pocket sprung construction: Otty's Original has a 16 centimetre spring core, which is the full depth of the support structure rather than a band near the surface.

Both are legitimately called hybrids, which is exactly the problem with the word. Ask how tall the springs are and what is underneath them.

Simba scored against what you can actually buy

Scored against a live competitor rather than a brand that has gone, because that is the comparison that can still change what you buy.

One thing worth knowing inside Simba's own range: a refurbished Hybrid Ultra has listed at around £699 against £1,749 new, at 34 centimetres and 7,300 springs. That is the best value Simba offers, by a distance.

And at the bottom of the range, the Hybrid Essential scores 5.2, the lowest mattress score on this site, at £549.

What this should teach you about buying a mattress

A mattress is an eight to fifteen year purchase and a young mattress brand is frequently a much shorter proposition. That mismatch is the lesson here.

A guarantee is only worth the company behind it. A ten year guarantee from a brand that is liquidated in year three is worth nothing, whatever the certificate says.

Your statutory rights sit with the retailer, not the manufacturer. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you can claim against whoever sold it to you for up to six years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and five in Scotland. That is why buying through an established third party splits the risk, where buying direct concentrates it in one company.

Check the trading entity at Companies House. It is free, it takes two minutes, and it tells you how long the company has traded and whether accounts are filed.

Keep the proof of purchase. After the first six months the burden of proof shifts to you.

None of this means avoid new brands. It means weigh the guarantee at what it is actually worth, and prefer construction you can verify today over promises about year eight.

The discount, and what the regulator said

Both brands discounted close to permanently, and Simba still does, so a crossed-out price is a statement about its own pricing rather than a saving.

The Competition and Markets Authority secured undertakings from Simba in August 2024 requiring that was and now prices reflect genuine previous selling prices, and issued a consent order against Emma in May 2026 over urgency countdown timers, which were found unlawful.
