The Wunderflip is a better answer than a trial period
Firmness is the hardest property to judge before buying and the most common reason people are unhappy with a mattress. The whole industry has settled on one answer: a long trial.
Trials are good and I score them highly throughout this site. But consider what returning a mattress actually involves. Getting a 28 centimetre mattress back into something transportable, arranging collection, sleeping on a sofa in the meantime, waiting for a refund, then ordering again and repeating the adjustment period. Most people will not do that twice, which means a trial is really one chance rather than unlimited chances.
The Wunderflip lets you unzip the cover and flip the top section. That is an evening's work and you can do it as often as you like, in either direction, for the life of the mattress.
That is structurally a better solution, and I am surprised nobody has copied it.
Eve's list prices are the problem
Judge Eve at the sale price
The Eve Original Hybrid lists at £849 for around 800 springs at 25 centimetres. That is the weakest springs-per-pound figure of any mattress on this site, and Origin offers up to 3,000 springs at £265.
Eve then discounts continuously, frequently at 40 per cent and sometimes closer to 50. The Wunderflip Ultimate at £1,299 list reaches roughly £649.
So the list prices are not the market. Any review ranking Eve against other brands using list prices is telling you nothing useful.
At around £649, the Wunderflip Ultimate with 3,000 springs, 28 centimetres and two selectable firmnesses is genuinely competitive with the Simba Hybrid Pro and offers something neither Simba nor Otty does.
What the 2022 administration means for you
Eve is owned by Bensons now
Eve Sleep entered administration in October 2022. The brand and its assets were acquired and Eve now trades under Bensonsforbedsretail Ltd.
Buying new: you are buying from Bensons, which is large and established. That is reassuring rather than worrying, and it is why you can lie on an Eve in a Bensons store.
If you already own a pre-2022 Eve: guarantees do not automatically survive an administration. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 sit with the retailer who sold it to you, not the brand, and run up to six years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, five in Scotland. If that retailer still exists, that is your route.
One practical upside worth using. Because Bensons owns Eve, you can see one in a shop. On a mattress whose entire selling point is adjustable firmness, lying on both sides before buying is worth more than any review.
Which Eve should you buy?
The Wunderflip Ultimate, on discount. Three thousand springs at 28 centimetres with two selectable firmnesses, typically around £649. It is the best thing Eve makes and the adjustability compounds with the spring count rather than substituting for it.
The Wunderflip Premium if the Ultimate is out of reach. Up to 2,500 springs and the same flippable design.
Not the Premium Hybrid. It lists fifty pounds below the Wunderflip Premium with around 1,100 fewer springs and no adjustability. There is no reading of that comparison where it wins.
Not the Original Hybrid unless it is heavily discounted and you have lain on one.
A correction worth making

Flippable mattresses are frequently described as a compromise product for buyers who cannot decide, with fixed-firmness models treated as the serious option. The reverse is closer to true. Firmness is the property buyers get wrong most often and the one no description conveys reliably, so a mattress that lets you change it after purchase removes the largest single risk in the category. Eve's Wunderflip models also carry the highest spring counts in the range, so they are not trading construction for flexibility.
Should you buy from Eve Sleep?
Yes, for the Wunderflip models on a genuine discount. The flippable design is the best answer to firmness uncertainty anyone in Britain is selling, and at around £649 the Ultimate is a serious mattress.
No at list price, and no for the conventional models, which are beaten on construction at every price point by Otty and Origin.
