Black Friday mattress deals
Whether Black Friday mattress prices are genuinely better than the rest of the year, and what to watch for if you shop it.

Prices and codes move
Everything below describes how these discounts work rather than promising a number that will still be live when you read it. Percentages and thresholds change weekly. Check the cash price on the day and judge that, not the discount.
Is Black Friday actually cheaper for mattresses?
For most of this category, less than people assume, and for one specific reason.
Mattress brands discount continuously. Emma, Nectar, DreamCloud and Dormeo run sales that are effectively permanent, so a November price often sits within a few per cent of a March one. The headline percentage rises; the cash price frequently does not move much.
So the practical test is the same as any other week. Note the cash price now. Compare it against what the same mattress cost a month ago if you can find it, and against what else you could buy for that money today. If you cannot remember what it cost before, the discount is not evidence of anything.
Where Black Friday genuinely helps is at the two ends: clearance of discontinued lines, and bundles that add a protector and pillows for little or nothing. Both are real. Neither is the headline percentage.
Four mechanics to recognise
| Mechanic | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Countdown timer | Manufacturing a deadline. One that resets on page reload is not a deadline at all. |
| Large crossed-out price | Anchoring you to a number nobody paid, so the cash price feels like a rescue. |
| Buy one get one, or tiered bundles | Shifting the question from whether you want one to how many. |
| Stock warnings | Urgency. Mattresses are made to order or held in volume; genuine scarcity is rare. |
None of this makes a product bad. It means the decision is being shaped by the selling rather than the specification.
The Competition and Markets Authority secured a consent order from Emma in May 2026 over urgency countdown timers, which were found unlawful, and undertakings from Simba in August 2024 requiring that was and now prices reflect genuine previous selling prices. Emma separately won at trial in July 2026 on reference pricing, after which the CMA withdrew that guidance.
What is actually worth buying in a Black Friday sale
Refurbished and ex-display stock. The largest genuine discount in the category and the one most likely to be cleared in November. A refurbished Simba Hybrid Ultra has listed at around £699 against £1,749.
Bedding, not mattresses. Duvets, pillows, protectors and sheets are cheap to ship and heavily promoted, and the percentages are more likely to be real. If you are working down the sensible upgrade order, November is a good month to buy a protector, a lower tog duvet and deep fitted sheets.
Frames and bases. Bulky, seasonal, and genuinely discounted to clear warehouse space.
What not to rush: a mattress you have not decided on. Firmness is the thing buyers get wrong most often and it cannot be judged in a week. A sale price is not worth a mattress you will dislike for eight years.
Three things that beat the sale
Eligibility schemes. Key worker, NHS, student, senior and forces discounts are frequently larger than a seasonal sale and available all year. Simba runs community hero discounts of up to 31 per cent and Rem-Fit's eligibility is unusually broad.
Brands that price low all the time. Origin's Hybrid Pro at £374 scores 8.4 here without any sale attached.
A long trial. Nectar's 365 nights, buying direct, is worth more than a percentage if you are uncertain about firmness. A cheaper mattress you cannot return is not cheaper.
The one rule that beats every code
Ask whether the cash price is good for what you are getting. Not whether the discount is big. Not what the crossed-out number says.
If a mattress is worth the money you would hand over today, buy it. If it is only attractive because of the figure beside it, the discount is doing the persuading.
This matters more in mattresses than almost any other category, because several brands run high list prices against near-permanent discounting. A percentage off a price that has rarely been charged is not a saving.
The Competition and Markets Authority has been active here. It secured undertakings from Simba in August 2024 requiring that was and now prices reflect genuine previous selling prices, and a consent order from Emma in May 2026 over urgency countdown timers, which were found unlawful. Emma separately won at trial in July 2026 on reference pricing, after which the CMA withdrew that guidance. The regulatory picture is live and worth knowing; the practical defence does not change either way.
Questions people ask
Are Black Friday mattress deals genuine?
Partly. Most brands discount continuously, so the November cash price often sits within a few per cent of a March one even though the headline percentage rises. The genuine wins are clearance of discontinued lines, bundles, and bedding rather than mattresses.
What should I buy in a Black Friday mattress sale?
Refurbished and ex-display stock, which is the largest real discount in the category. Bedding, frames and bases, which are genuinely cleared. Not a mattress you have not decided on, because firmness cannot be judged in a week.
Do countdown timers on mattress sites mean anything?
A timer that resets when you reload the page is not a deadline. The Competition and Markets Authority secured a consent order from Emma in May 2026 over urgency countdowns, which were found unlawful.
