Experts and specialists

The people who check what this site publishes in their own field, named in full, with profiles you can verify.

What this page is

Most of what you read about mattresses is written by people with no clinical, technical or trade background in the subject. That is the normal state of this category, and it is why a page like this is worth having.

The specialists below have reviewed content for The Mattress Guide, checking that what the site published in their own field was accurate. They are named here with their credentials and their own professional profiles, so you can verify who they are rather than take a job title on trust.

What expert review does and does not mean here

These specialists check factual accuracy within their field. They do not set scores, they do not choose which products are recommended, and none of them is paid by a mattress brand through this site. Editorial decisions and every verdict remain mine, and I am accountable for them. Where a specialist disagreed with something, the content changed.

Expert review sits on top of the ordinary method rather than replacing it. How each review is built is set out on the method page, the commercial position is on the editorial independence page, and mistakes are logged publicly in the corrections log.

Why this matters more on some pages than others

A review of a mattress topper is a consumer product judgement. An article about sleep apnoea, pregnancy sleep or back pain is not, and the standard it should be held to is different.

The site carries a number of pages that fall into that second category, covering insomnia, sleep apnoea, sleep paralysis, co-sleeping and sleeping through pain or injury. On those subjects the cost of being casually wrong is higher than a poor purchase, which is why specialist input belongs there and why none of those pages tells you to treat a medical problem with a mattress.

What this site will not do

No page here diagnoses anything, and no product on this site treats a medical condition. Where sleep problems are persistent, the advice throughout is the same and it is not a purchase: see a GP. A mattress can stop making a bad back worse. It cannot fix one.

Questions people ask

Do these experts write the reviews?

No. Every review, guide and comparison on the site is written by Kyle Klinkradt. The specialists listed here review content within their own field for factual accuracy. They do not write it and they do not set scores.

Are the experts paid by mattress brands?

No. None of them is paid by a mattress brand through this site, and none has a commercial interest in which products are recommended here.

Do experts decide the scores?

No. Scores are set by Kyle Klinkradt and he is accountable for them. A specialist can and has caused content to change on a point of fact, but the verdict on a product is editorial.

How do I verify someone on this page is who the site says?

Every panel member is listed with links to their own professional profiles, which is deliberate. Follow them. A credential you cannot check independently is not a credential.
