About The Mattress Guide
An independent UK site reviewing mattresses, toppers, pillows and bedding, written by someone with ten years in the trade and funded by commission rather than by brands.
What this site is
The Mattress Guide is an independent UK site reviewing mattresses, toppers, pillows and bedding. Every page is written by one person, scored against a published set of criteria, and funded by affiliate commission rather than by brands paying for coverage.
The aim is narrow and specific: to be the most useful thing a British buyer can read before spending several hundred pounds on something they will sleep on for the next eight years.
What makes it different
Four things, and they are all deliberate.
The bad parts are left in
Every review names who the mattress is wrong for, and most name something better at the same price. Scores use the full range, which means several well-known mattresses score five out of ten on edge support, because that is what the construction gives you.
Guarantees are read properly
A ten year guarantee with a 25 mm sagging threshold, a base requirement and a protector condition is a weaker promise than a five year guarantee without them. Both get advertised the same way. Every review here says which one you are actually getting, and points out that your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 sit with the retailer and last up to six years regardless of what the guarantee says.
Owner complaints are counted, not summarised
For each model I read UK owner reviews across Trustpilot, Reddit, Mumsnet and retailer listings and count what people actually complain about, with the sample size and the period stated. The pattern of complaints is usually more revealing than any single review.
Everything is UK only
UK sizes, pounds, UK availability, UK trial terms, UK consumer law. Products that no longer sell here are marked as such rather than quietly left in a best-of list.
Who writes it
Every page is written by Kyle Klinkradt, who has worked in the UK mattress and bedding industry for over ten years across retail, distribution and brand partnerships.
How it is funded
Affiliate commission on some outbound links. No advertising, no sponsored content, no paid placement, and no brand has ever paid to appear here or to be ranked above another. The full policy is on the editorial independence page.
What is claimed, and what is not
No laboratory testing is performed here and none is claimed. Reviews are built from published specifications, warranty documentation, UK pricing and counted owner reports, weighed against a decade in the trade. The method page explains exactly how, including the limitations.
