The team behind The Mattress Guide
One person writes everything here. That is unusual enough in this category to be worth stating plainly, along with what it means for what you read.
Who writes this site
Every review, guide and comparison on The Mattress Guide is written by one person: Kyle Klinkradt. There is no editorial team, no rotating pool of freelancers and no agency producing copy against a keyword list.
That is worth saying because of what this category usually looks like. A large share of UK mattress content is produced at volume by writers who have never worked in the trade, commissioned by sites that earn the same commission whichever mattress you buy. The byline is often a brand name or an "Editorial Team" label, which exists precisely so that no individual has to stand behind the verdict.
A one-person site has an obvious limitation, which is capacity. It also has one real advantage: every score here was set by someone whose name is attached to it, and who can be held to it.
What the experience actually is
Over the past decade I have worked across the UK mattress industry, in retail, distribution and brand partnerships, and sold more than ten million pounds of mattresses.
That figure matters to you for one reason, and it is not the number.
Why it changes what I can tell you
Selling at that volume means hearing what people say six months after they buy, not six days. Which mattresses come back and for what reason. Which complaints turn out to be genuine faults and which are the adjustment period people were not warned about. Which guarantees get honoured without a fight and which ones have a condition buried in them that quietly ends most claims. None of that is in a specification sheet, and nobody writing from one can tell you about it.
It also means I have handled, sold or assessed products from every major UK bed-in-a-box brand, including ones I score badly. Familiarity with a brand is not the same as favouring it.
How the site makes money
Affiliate commission. If you buy through some of the links here, the retailer pays a percentage. You pay the same price either way.
The conflict of interest in that model is real and I am not going to pretend otherwise. What I can tell you is how it is contained here:
- Commission rate plays no part in a score. Scores are set before offers are attached to a page.
- Negative verdicts get published on brands that pay me. There are pages on this site scoring below 7 for brands whose links earn commission, and a standing list of products I will not recommend at all.
- No brand pays for coverage, placement or a score, and no brand sees a review before it goes live.
- Products that cannot be bought in the UK are labelled as such rather than quietly left in a best-of list earning clicks.
The full position is on the editorial independence page, and where I get something wrong it goes in the corrections log rather than being edited away silently.
What I do not claim to do
I do not run a laboratory. There is no pressure-mapping rig, no climate chamber and no instrumented durability testing behind these reviews, and I am not going to imply otherwise by using the word testing loosely.
What the reviews are built from is set out in full on the method page: manufacturer specifications, the complete warranty and trial documentation rather than the marketing summary of it, current UK pricing tracked over time, owner reports read at volume across retailer sites, Trustpilot and forums, and ten years of trade experience applied to all of it.
That combination is genuinely good at some things, including spotting a guarantee condition that will cost you, identifying when a specification has quietly changed, and knowing which complaints recur. It is weaker at others. Where a question can only be settled by instrumented testing, I say so rather than guessing in confident language.
Where this site is cited
Other people in the industry reference the verdicts here, which is a more useful signal than anything I could say about myself.
- Mattressman, a UK mattress retailer, on this site's reviews of its range.
- Putnams, a UK posture and medical products manufacturer, citing this site's verdict on bed wedges.
- The Fine Bedding Company, referencing this site's sleeping position guides.
- BedInABox, citing this site's UK mattress sizes guide.
Getting hold of me
If something here is wrong, tell me and I will correct it and log it. If a brand has changed a specification, a price or a guarantee condition, that is the most useful message I receive and it goes to the front of the queue.

Affiliate commission from some of the links. You pay the same price either way, commission rates play no part in scoring, and negative verdicts are published on brands that pay commission.
