Best super king mattresses
A super king gives each of two people the same width a child gets alone, which changes more than any specification upgrade.
I earn a commission if you buy through some links on this page. It never changes what I recommend, and I publish negative verdicts on brands I earn from. Editorial independence.
A UK super king is 180 by 200 centimetres. Split between two people that is 90 centimetres each, which is exactly the width of a UK single bed.
That framing is the point of this page. In a double at 135 centimetres, each adult gets 67.5 centimetres, about 25 per cent less than a child sleeping alone. In a king at 150, each gets 75.
So for couples, going up a size frequently does more than any specification change. If the room takes it, spend there before spending on springs.
The other thing a super king unlocks is dual firmness that actually works, because every dual-firmness mattress has a transition zone down the middle, and 90 centimetres a side puts you well clear of it.
The picks
The pick, if you want one answer
Origin LumbarCloud Mattress, 8.2 / 10. The most depth and spring structure per pound available in Britain, which matters more at this size because the area to support is larger.
| Product | Best for | From | Score |

Origin LumbarCloud Mattress: Best overall
£797 · 8.2 / 10
Thirty-five centimetres and up to 8,000 springs. Spring counts are quoted for a king, so a super king has proportionally more, and at this size the gap between this and premium brands is at its widest in cash terms.
Buy it if
You want maximum construction per pound at a size where most brands charge heavily.
Do not buy it if
You are both under about eleven stone. The lower third does little for you.

Tweak: Best for couples who disagree
Mid range · 7.8 / 10
Scores 7.8. A different firmness on each side, and a super king is the size where this genuinely works: 90 centimetres each puts both of you well away from the transition zone that every dual-firmness mattress has down the middle.
Buy it if
You and your partner differ in weight or preferred firmness.
Do not buy it if
You both want the same thing. You are paying for a feature you will not use.
Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress: Best value
£374 area · 8.4 / 10
The highest scoring mattress on this site at 8.4. Super king pricing escalates faster than the materials do at most brands, so a brand that prices low across the range is worth more at this size than at a single.
Buy it if
You want the strongest general specification without premium pricing.
Do not buy it if
You are heavier and want maximum depth.

Otty Original Hybrid Mattress: Best if you sleep hot
Around £500 area · 8.1 / 10
A 16 centimetre spring core, which is a support structure rather than a thin comfort layer. A larger mattress holds more air and more moisture, so airflow matters more at this size, not less.
Buy it if
Heat is your main complaint and you want a structural answer.
Do not buy it if
You want to sink in.

Harrison Spinks: Best premium
Premium · 8.3 / 10
The highest scoring entry on this site at 8.3. The caveat is weight: a super king natural filled mattress is the heaviest thing in this category and turning one is firmly a two-person job.
Buy it if
You want hand-built construction and two people can turn it.
Do not buy it if
You cannot turn a heavy mattress. A super king is the heaviest there is.

UK bed sizes, and what each person gets
| Size | Dimensions | Each of two |
|---|---|---|
| Double | 135 x 190cm | 67.5cm |
| King | 150 x 200cm | 75cm |
| Super king | 180 x 200cm | 90cm, the same as a UK single |
| Emperor | 200 x 200cm | 100cm, and a specialist size for bedding |
Note the length as well. A double is 190 centimetres and a king and super king are 200, so going up a size from a double gains you ten centimetres of length, which matters if either of you is tall.
And European sizes are different again: a European king is 160 by 200, which is neither a UK king nor a super king, and it will not take UK fitted sheets.
Will it fit, and can you get it in
A super king needs roughly 60 to 75 centimetres of clear floor on each side to walk and make the bed comfortably. In a room under about 3.5 metres wide, that is tight.
The bigger problem is usually access. Measure the route in: doorways, stair turns and landing width, not just the bedroom. A sprung mattress bent around a tight turn can have its spring unit permanently damaged, and that voids most guarantees.
Two solutions if access is the constraint. A boxed mattress arrives compressed and goes up any staircase. A zip-and-link is two singles joined, which solves access completely and also gives each of you a genuinely separate mattress with your own firmness.
The costs that come with the size
Bedding. Super king sheets, duvets and protectors cost more and are stocked less widely. Check the depth too: modern hybrids run 28 to 35 centimetres and standard sheets are cut for around 25.
The base. Slat spacing no more than about 7.5 centimetres, and at this width two centre legs rather than one. The middle of a super king carries the most load and is furthest from any support.
Weight. A super king hybrid can exceed 60 kilograms. That matters for turning, for ottoman gas strut ratings, and for whether you can rotate it alone.
Disposal of the old one. A council bulky waste collection typically costs 20 to 40 pounds and usually requires getting it to the kerb yourself.
What not to do
Order before measuring the route in. Doorways and stair turns, not the bedroom.
Buy a dual firmness mattress in a double. At 67.5 centimetres each you are both close to the transition zone. A super king is where this feature works.
Use a single centre leg. At 180 centimetres wide, two is the sensible specification.
Assume your bedding will fit. Super king and emperor are different sizes, and depth matters as much as width.
Buy a European king expecting a UK size. A European king is 160 by 200, which is neither UK size and will not take UK sheets.
Also considered, and why they are not here
A roundup is only as useful as what it leaves out, so here is what was assessed and rejected for this list.
| Product | Why it is not on the list |
|---|---|
| Mlily Supreme 10000 | Exceptional motion isolation and a plush specification using thin-gauge springs. At super king size, two people are far enough apart that motion isolation matters less than it does in a double. |
| Simba Hybrid Ultra | Thirty-four centimetres and 7,300 springs at £1,749 in king. Origin beats it on depth and count for well under half. Refurbished units have listed at around £699. |
| Hypnos range | Excellent hand-built construction, and a super king double-sided mattress is the heaviest thing you will ever be asked to turn. |
| Emma Original Lite | Excellent value and limited support headroom, which shows fastest when two adults of different weights share a large mattress. |
How this list is made, and who made it
Independence
No brand pays to appear on this site and no placement is sold. Some links earn a commission if you buy, which never changes a score, an order or a verdict. Several of the lowest scores here are on products that carry commission, and several recommendations carry none.
Who writes this. Kyle Klinkradt has worked in the mattress and bedding industry for over ten years across retail, distribution and brand partnerships, and has handled, sold or assessed products from every major UK bed-in-a-box brand. Every review on this site is written by one person, so the scores mean the same thing from page to page.
What the assessment is. Construction specifications against what they physically do: spring height and where in the mattress it sits, spring count for the size, gauge, whether the base is sprung or foam, foam density where it is published, comfort layer depth and material. Then the commercial terms that decide what you are actually buying: trial against returns policy, guarantee length against the company's UK trading history at Companies House, and the regulatory record.
What it is not. This is not a laboratory. I do not publish pressure-mapping data or claim to have slept eight years on every mattress here, because nobody has and pages that imply otherwise are not telling you the truth. Where a judgement rests on construction rather than long-term use, the review says so.
What gets a product removed. Leaving the UK market, a specification change that makes the review inaccurate, or a corrected fact. Brands that have withdrawn are kept on the site with the score removed rather than quietly deleted, because people still search for them.
See editorial independence, corrections and the author page.
How these were chosen
Every product here has its own review on this site with a score out of 10, and the score is a judgement rather than an average. Nothing appears in a list because it pays more.
A score is against the market, not against its own range. The cheapest mattress in a lineup is usually priced to make the model above it look reasonable, and the flagship of a budget range has risen into a bracket where better brands compete. Both are judged against what else you could buy for the money.
Everything listed can actually be bought in the UK. That is not a given: Casper withdrew in July 2020 and Leesa no longer sells here, and both still appear in current British roundups with affiliate links attached.
I do not pad the list. Where only three or four products genuinely qualify, there are three or four. A list of seven when the category contains four good ones is a list with three bad recommendations in it.
Prices move constantly. Judge the cash price on the day rather than any percentage beside it. See every review on this site or where the real savings are.
Questions people ask
How big is a UK super king mattress?
One hundred and eighty by 200 centimetres. Split between two people that is 90 centimetres each, which is the same width as a UK single bed.
Is a super king worth it for couples?
Usually more than any specification upgrade. In a double each adult gets 67.5 centimetres, about 25 per cent less than a child sleeping alone. A super king finally gives each person a single bed's width.
What should I check before buying a super king?
The route in rather than the bedroom: doorways, stair turns and landing width. A sprung mattress bent around a tight turn can have its spring unit permanently damaged, which voids most guarantees. A boxed mattress or a zip-and-link solves access.
Does a super king bed need two centre legs?
At 180 centimetres wide, yes. The middle of the frame carries the most load and is furthest from any support, which is where sagging starts.
