Best mattress deals UK

Where the real savings are in UK mattresses, which discounts are theatre, and the three things that beat a percentage off.

Prices and codes move

Everything below describes how these discounts work rather than promising a number that will still be live when you read it. Percentages and thresholds change weekly. Check the cash price on the day and judge that, not the discount.

The three deals that beat any percentage off

Almost every mattress brand is discounted almost all the time. So the interesting question is not where the biggest percentage is, but where the genuine value sits. There are three answers.

1. Refurbished and ex-display stock. This is the largest real discount in the category and almost nobody looks for it. A refurbished Simba Hybrid Ultra has listed at around £699 against £1,749 new. That is a 34 centimetre, 7,300 spring mattress for the price of a mid-range one. Check what the refurbishment involves and what warranty comes with it, then judge it on that.

2. Brands that never needed a discount. Origin's Hybrid at £265 with up to 3,000 pocket springs, and the Hybrid Pro at £374, which scores 8.4 here, the highest mattress score on this site. Origin's list prices are already low, so waiting for a sale is mostly waiting.

3. Eligibility schemes. If you qualify for a key worker, NHS, student, senior or forces discount, that is frequently a larger and more reliable saving than any seasonal sale, and it stacks with the everyday price rather than a fictional one. Simba runs community hero discounts of up to 31 per cent, and Rem-Fit runs unusually broad schemes. See key worker discounts and student discounts.

How to check whether a bundle is worth it

Bundles are a legitimate way to sell and also a way to make comparison harder. One check settles it.

Find the price of the same mattress without the extras and subtract it. That difference is what you are paying for the pillows and protector. Then ask whether you would pay it for them separately.

Often the answer is yes, because bundled bedding is genuinely discounted. Sometimes the mattress alone is not offered at all, which is information in itself.

Two things worth knowing whatever the answer. A protector in a bundle is worth having, because a stain voids most mattress guarantees and the probability of one over eight years is high. A fixed-height pillow is a guess, because nobody can specify your loft in advance.

The savings nobody counts

Three costs sit outside the mattress price and change the real total.

Disposal. A council bulky waste collection typically costs 20 to 40 pounds and usually requires you to get the mattress to the kerb yourself. A retailer that takes the old one away is providing something with genuine cash value that never appears in a price comparison. Panda includes free recycling of your old mattress on mattress orders, any brand.

Deep fitted sheets. Standard UK sheets are cut for around 25 centimetres and modern hybrids run 28 to 35. Budget for new sheets or you will be straightening corners for years.

A protector. Twenty to forty pounds, and it removes the single most common reason a legitimate guarantee claim is refused.

When not to buy at all

If your mattress is under about five years old and simply too firm, a topper is the cheaper fix, provided the mattress has no dip over about 25 millimetres.

If you wake up hot, change the duvet and the pillowcase first. Seven to 10.5 tog suits most modern UK homes, and a cheap plastic-backed protector seals off the airflow you paid for. Both are fixable for under a hundred pounds and both are more often the cause than the mattress.

If your neck aches, check the pillow height before anything else. Lie in your sleeping position for ten minutes and have someone look at you from behind.

If the base is wrong, fix that first. Slats more than about 7.5 centimetres apart cause sagging and void most guarantees, and a sheet of plywood costs less than any discount is worth.

The one rule that beats every code

Ask whether the cash price is good for what you are getting. Not whether the discount is big. Not what the crossed-out number says.

If a mattress is worth the money you would hand over today, buy it. If it is only attractive because of the figure beside it, the discount is doing the persuading.

This matters more in mattresses than almost any other category, because several brands run high list prices against near-permanent discounting. A percentage off a price that has rarely been charged is not a saving.

The Competition and Markets Authority has been active here. It secured undertakings from Simba in August 2024 requiring that was and now prices reflect genuine previous selling prices, and a consent order from Emma in May 2026 over urgency countdown timers, which were found unlawful. Emma separately won at trial in July 2026 on reference pricing, after which the CMA withdrew that guidance. The regulatory picture is live and worth knowing; the practical defence does not change either way.

Questions people ask

When is the best time to buy a mattress in the UK?

There is no strong seasonal pattern, because most brands discount continuously. The genuine savings are refurbished and ex-display stock, brands with low list prices that never needed a sale, and eligibility schemes such as key worker or student discounts.

What is the biggest real mattress discount?

Refurbished and ex-display stock, by a wide margin. A refurbished Simba Hybrid Ultra has listed at around 699 pounds against 1,749 new. Check what the refurbishment involves and what warranty comes with it.

Are mattress bundles good value?

Find the price of the same mattress without the extras and subtract it. That difference is what you are paying for the pillows and protector. A protector is worth having; a fixed-height pillow is a guess at your loft.
