Silentnight Review: Every Model, Scored
Britain's largest bed manufacturer, making mattresses in Barnoldswick since 1946, and the counter-example to an argument I make constantly on this site.

Verdict
Britain's largest bed manufacturer, making mattresses in Barnoldswick since 1946, and the counter-example to an argument I make constantly on this site. Almost no mattress brand has existed as long as the guarantee it offers. Silentnight has existed for eighty years, which is the guarantee period four times over.
Who should buy it
You want the security of an eighty year old manufacturer at prices the specialist brands cannot match.
Who should avoid it
You want the construction of a specialist bed-in-a-box brand at the same money. Silentnight spreads its engineering across everything from cot mattresses to divans.

The range, scored
| Model | From | Key construction | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleep Now range | £169 | Boxed, fast delivery, entry construction | 6.7 |
| Studio range | Rolled hybrid, the sensible middle | 6.9 | |
| Mirapocket range | Pocket sprung, count in the model name | 7.3 |
Scores are mine, using the six criteria set out on the method page. Prices are the lowest UK size before discount and move constantly.
Miracoil and Mirapocket are two letters apart and fundamentally different
The most consequential mistake in this range
Miracoil is an open coil system. The springs are linked together, so movement on one side of the bed travels across it.
Mirapocket uses individually pocketed springs that respond independently.
If you share a bed, that difference matters more than any other specification on the mattress, and the names are two letters apart. Retailers confuse them in listings regularly.
Miracoil also sounds like the premium option, which makes it worse. It is the one range in Silentnight's lineup I would actively steer a couple away from.
The Mirapocket number is a king size count
A Mirapocket 1200 has around 1,200 springs in a king size. A double of the same model has fewer and a single fewer still, because spring density stays roughly constant while the surface area shrinks.
Retailers routinely quote the king figure against every size, which is how a single mattress ends up advertised with 1,200 springs while containing closer to 800. That is usually a listing copied from the range specification rather than dishonesty, and the effect on a buyer comparing models is the same either way.
On how many springs you actually need: between roughly 1,000 and 2,000 in a king is where most people should be. Below about 800 the springs respond as groups rather than individually. Above 2,000, manufacturers increase the count using thinner gauge wire in smaller units and the difference you can feel diminishes quickly.
Buy direct, or lose the thing worth having
The comfort exchange is direct only
Silentnight's 60 night comfort exchange applies when you buy from Silentnight. Buying the same mattress from Argos, Dunelm, Amazon, Very or John Lewis usually gets you a standard returns policy on an unused mattress, which is not the same thing at all: you cannot sleep on it and then change your mind.
Third parties are frequently cheaper, sometimes substantially. So the decision is straightforward: if you are confident about firmness, buy wherever is cheapest. If you are not, the exchange is worth more than the price difference, because firmness is the thing buyers get wrong most often and it cannot be judged without sleeping on the mattress for weeks.
How to actually shop this brand
Silentnight sells through more retailers than any other bed brand in Britain, and that changes the method.
With Emma or Otty there is one price and the only question is the discount. With a Mirapocket there are eight prices at any moment and the spread between them is often wider than any discount code.
Find the exact model name and spring count, then search that specific string rather than the brand. Searching Silentnight Mirapocket 1200 finds you the same mattress at five retailers. Searching Silentnight mattress finds you a sales page.
Then weigh the cheapest against buying direct for the exchange.
Eighty years is the actual argument
Silentnight Group Limited, company number 7525259, has been manufacturing in Barnoldswick, Lancashire since 1946, and holds B Corp certification.
Set that against the rest of this category. Emma launched in the UK in 2017, Simba in 2016, Otty in 2016. Brook + Wilde was liquidated in 2023 and Eve went into administration in 2022. Each of those offers a ten year guarantee on a trading history shorter than the promise.
What Silentnight's longevity buys you practically: a guarantee from a company that has honoured guarantees for decades, a supply chain that will still exist when you need something, and manufacturing scale that keeps prices down.
What it does not buy you is the construction focus of a specialist. Otty puts 16 centimetre pocket springs into a £500 mattress because that is the one thing the company does. Silentnight makes everything from cot mattresses to divans and spreads its engineering accordingly. Both are legitimate trades.
A correction worth making
Commonly repeated, and wrong
Silentnight's Miracoil range is frequently assumed to be a premium line because the name suggests engineering, and it is an open coil system where the springs are linked together, so movement on one side of the bed travels across it. Mirapocket, two letters different, uses individually pocketed springs that respond independently. For anyone sharing a bed that is the most consequential specification on the mattress, and retailers confuse the two in listings regularly.
Should you buy from Silentnight?
Yes, and the Mirapocket range is the part worth buying. Proper pocket springs from a manufacturer trading since 1946, at prices the multi-retailer market keeps honest.
Aim for 1,000 to 2,000 springs in a king, buy direct if you are unsure about firmness so you keep the exchange, and avoid Miracoil entirely if you share the bed.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between Miracoil and Mirapocket?
They are fundamentally different products two letters apart. Miracoil is an open coil system where the springs are linked, so movement travels across the bed. Mirapocket uses individually pocketed springs that respond independently. If you share a bed, that matters more than any other specification.
Does a Mirapocket 1200 have 1200 springs?
In a king size, roughly. A double has fewer and a single fewer still, because spring density stays constant while area shrinks. Retailers quote the king figure against every size, so a single can be advertised with 1,200 springs while containing closer to 800.
Should I buy Silentnight direct or from Argos?
Direct if you are unsure about firmness, because the 60 night comfort exchange applies only when buying from Silentnight. Third party retailers usually offer standard returns on an unused mattress, which means you cannot sleep on it and then change your mind.
Is Silentnight a good brand?
It has manufactured in Barnoldswick since 1946 and holds B Corp certification, so its guarantees come from a company that has honoured guarantees for decades. What it does not give you is the construction focus of a specialist brand at the same price.
