A ten stone sleeper reaches that point within the first few centimetres of comfort layer and experiences the mattress as firm. An eighteen stone sleeper compresses considerably further, reaches the layers beneath, and experiences the same mattress as soft.

It matters more on a double at 135 centimetres than on a king at 150 or a super king at 180, because on a double each person has only 67.5 centimetres and you are closer to the middle.
If you are buying a dual-firmness mattress, buy it in a king or larger if the room allows. The wider the bed, the further each of you is from the transition, and the more of the benefit you actually get.
The other ways to solve the same problem
