Welcome to our in-depth Casper mattress review. The Casper brand is the pioneer of the bed in a box industry, they began across the Atlantic Ocean in the USA and struck gold.
Casper has now expanded into the UK market to replicate its success, only time will tell if they manage to make a splash here in this competitive market.
Will Casper be equally successful? let’s find out and dig right into the Casper mattress review (SUMMARY AT THE END).
Casper Mattress Construction
Most foam mattresses offered online have a simple 3 foam layer configuration. A top comfort layer, the middle memory foam layer and a supportive base layer. The Casper mattress, however, is made up of 4 distinct foam layers which help with a smoother transition between layers.
If you are looking for a hybrid mattress which combines foam and springs, we would recommend you look at our Casper Hybrid mattress review once done with this one.
It is also important to mention that the Casper Mattress is made here in the UK and comply with the health and safety requirements in the UK.

Cover
The cover is removable and made of 99% polyester and 1% elastane. Elastane is a highly elastic and durable material. It is also very soft to the touch and breathable.
Last year Casper also included 4 handles on the underside of the mattress for easy mobility. The cover is also removable and washable at 40 degrees, however, there is no mention that it can be machine washed. We did a bit of research for this Casper mattress review and found that Casper recommends cleaning the cover with water and mild detergent. From our experience, dabbing rather than rubbing helps to get the marks out.

Casper Mattress Layers
1. Top Open-Cell Layer (3,8cm)
The top layer is open-pored polyurethane foam. This means there are larger and more common air pockets in the foam. This makes the top layer soft but also increases airflow and breathability. Poly-foam is also very responsive and adjusts quickly when you change position. These characteristics make it a perfect material for a top layer.

2. Memory Foam Layer (3,8cm)
Below the top layer is the visco-elastic foam layer (visco-elastic and memory foam are interchangeable terms). The combination of the top layer and the memory foam layer extends the body contouring deeper into the mattress. Placement of the memory foam below the top layer also works to combat the heat retaining properties of memory foam.

3. Transition Layer (3,8cm)
The transition poly foam layer acts as a bridge between the softer upper layers and the final base layer. It softens the more extruding areas of the body. For example, the hips and shoulders which generally receive the most pressure.

4. Support Foam (12,7cm)
Ultimately we have the base layer which is made from high-density polyfoam. The base layer includes channelled edging which are cuts that add zoning to the shoulder and hip areas. Coincidentally these cut-outs also offer more airflow through the mattress for better mattress hygiene.

How Thick Is the Casper Mattress?
All in all the mattress has a total thickness of 25cm and can hold up to 22 stone or 140 kg per person (2 people). This is one of the most durable mattresses we have reviewed.
Casper Mattress Firmness
From our Casper mattress review, we have given it a 6.5 out of 10 in terms of firmness.

The firmness of a mattress is the combination of sinkage and pushback from the layers beneath you. This depends on each individuals body form and weight. But the Casper mattress will feel slightly firmer than the average “bed in a box”. This is because the Casper mattress is a combination of 4 foam layers whereas the average foam mattress is made up of 3.
The top layers allow for sinkage and pressure relief while the base layer’s quick response work to lift and support the sleeper.
Mattress Design
There seems to be a trend among all the online mattresses in the UK, they all blue, white and grey. The colours are practical, grey underneath and a clean white on top. As far as we are aware Casper is one of the first to pioneer the “bed in a box” concept. The simple neutral white and grey combination originated from Casper’s offices. The Casper is designed in the USA and they follow a simple yet minimalistic colour-mix so the Casper will be a great addition to any room.

Should I Buy a Casper Mattress?
For those looking for an aesthetically pleasing mattress, this would be a good choice. The design is very simple and sleek which is a plus. However, to conclude this Casper mattress review, the main stand out feature is that it is a 4 foam layer design as compared to the standard 3 in the UK. This allows for a smoother transition of body weight into the mattress. In our opinion, the Casper mattress is a great option for those looking for:
- A well-zoned mattress where you receive relief and comforting pressure.
- A medium to a medium-firm mattress to help with relief and support.
- A foam only mattress.
