What happens when Casper takes their most popular model and upgrades the support and bounce?
In this Casper Hybrid mattress review, we look under the covers to examine all the features including the added spring layer and most importantly if it's worth taking home.
let’s jump right into this new hybrid offering and start the Casper Hybrid mattress review (SUMMARY AT THE END).
Casper Hybrid Mattress Construction
The Casper Hybrid is a mix of 3 foam layers; breathable open-cell foam, responsive memory foam and an adaptive transition layer. Additionally, Casper has included a layer of coil springs that have been encased in foam to ensure mattress stability.
Interestingly to note is that all Casper mattresses are designed in Silicone Valley but manufactured right here in the UK. The Casper Hybrid complies with BS 7177 which ultimately means that the components used are a low fire hazard which is compulsory by UK law and it does so without TCPP. The Hybrid is also CertiPUR certified. CertiPUR is a voluntary testing, analysis and certification programme for the environment, health and safety properties of polyurethane foam.
The cover which is very similar to the original Casper mattress is also made of 99% polyester and 1% elastane. This material mix creates a soft texture yet also stretchy and durable.
Casper really concerns themselves with the customer journey and have therefore made the cover removable and washable at up to 40 degrees celsius. Additionally, Casper included handles on the Hybrid which makes it easier to move when the time comes.
Casper Hybrid Mattress Layers
1. Comfort Layer (3,8cm)
The top comfort layer is made from open-cell polyfoam. Open-cell technology boosts the foams natural cooling ability by introducing larger air pockets in the actual foam. This layer can be compared to latex which is super bouncy as well as quick in response to movement, that way movement on the surface of the mattress is not hindered in any way.
2. Memory Foam Layer (3,8cm)
Secondly, we have a memory foam layer. In contrast to the top layer memory foam has a slow response which allows for deeper body contouring and pressure relief. This works especially well in the shoulder and hip area for side sleepers. The consensus is that memory foam retains heat which is true but Casper has eliminated this effect by placing it below the breathable layer.
3. Transition Layer (3,8cm)
After sinking through the top layers you'll come across the transition layer. This is a high-density polyfoam designed to shift the weight from the softer top layers into the supportive pocket springs.
4 & 5. Support Foam (12,6cm)
Finally, we have the foundation and base of the whole Casper Hybrid mattress. The majority of the bed's support comes from these coils. The interesting feature about these springs which we have not seen before is that the springs have zoned support. This means if you look at the image to the right you will see firmer springs under the hip area and softer springs under shoulders. This is then all encased in a foam layer to keep the springs in full alignment to provide maximum support.
How Thick Is the Casper Hybrid Mattress?
To conclude this construction section, all in all, the Casper Hybrid mattress has a total height of 24cm and can hold up to 22 stone or 140 kg per person (based on 2 persons).
Casper Hybrid Mattress Firmness
From our Casper Hybrid mattress review, we are all in agreement that it is surprisingly less firm that the Casper original memory foam mattress. We give it a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, this puts the Casper Hybrid on the softer side as the online bed-in-a-box industry's standard of a medium is about a 6.5.
Although the pocket springs bring the structure and push to the mattress it's so well designed that it doesn't eliminate the sinkage effect from the top layers and on the contrary, the top layers don't drown out the support of the coils. Overall, the mattress is perfectly balanced that will work best for variable sleepers.
There is not really much to say here. Casper has nailed it on the head. Neutral, simple and neat. The Casper Hybrid would be a great addition to any room with nearly any colour scheme.
Casper Trial Period and Warranty
You have 100 nights to test your new Casper Hybrid mattress. If you don't love it, Casper will organise a pick up at zero cost to you and refund you your full purchase amount.
Since Casper covers you in the short run with their trial period they also satisfy your potential concerns in the long run. The Casper Hybrid mattress includes a 10-year warranty which will cover deterioration and/or any physical flaw in the mattress that causes the foam material to split or crack amongst many others.
An added value service is that Casper also offers what they call "snooze specialists" who are available 6 days a week to answer any questions you may have.
