Before we get into the Brook and Wilde mattress review. It is clear to see that the “bed in a box” market becomes more and more saturated, it is always a pleasure to see a company that brings something different to the bedroom. The Brook and Wilde Lux mattress is definitely an option for those who enjoy the finer things in life.

In this Brook and Wilde mattress review, we will talk about all the features the mattress has to offer and if it’s worth a buy (SUMMARY AT THE END).

Brook and Wilde Mattress Construction

The Brook and Wilde Lux mattress is made up of 5 unique layers (2 of which are pocket spring layers) making this one of the most sophisticated hybrid mattresses we have reviewed. Brook and Wilde comply with the safety BS 7177 standards which deem the mattress as “fire retardant” and is free from Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) which deplete our ozone layer.

The cover and the mattress are made here in the UK, Derby to be specific.

If you find this layer construction to be highly sophisticated, you should really head on to our Brook and Wilde Elite mattress review after this review. The Elite is their ultimate and top of the line in their luxury offerings.

Brook and Wilde Cover

The cover which is a mix of polyester and cotton is divided in two by a sleek orange stripe running along the midsection of the mattress. This neatly brings the top white section and the lower navy section together. The cover is designed in such a way to be soft, breathable yet also durable.

Brook and Wilde have included 4 mattress handles for practicality, this is always great to see as very few brands offer handles for manoeuvring. The cover is also hypoallergenic, which is great for those prone to allergies, however, the cover is not machine washable so the good old damp cloth will have to be used to get rid of any spillages.

From our experience, dabbing with lukewarm water and a cleaning solution does the trick.

Brook and Wilde Mattress Layers

1. Top Memory Foam Layer

The Visco-elastic properties of memory foam allow for it to contour and mould to the shape of your body. Another great reason to have memory foam close to your body is the fact that its slow responsiveness dampens any motion transference which could be coming from your partners’ side.

2. Mini Pocket Spring Layer

2000 mini pocket springs placed just beneath the memory foam layer are engineered to aid with needed pressure relief as well as act as a transition layer.

Many standard hybrid mattresses only use this as their spring/support layer in their mattresses, whereas Brook and Wilde use this layer and a second spring layer which you will read about in the 4th layer.

3. Memory Foam Layer

The second memory foam layer is denser and takes the shape of a wave to provide more support to the shoulder areas as well as to allow for optimal spinal alignment.

4. Full Pocket Spring Layer

This is the support layer which gives you needed support. These full-sized springs are individually wrapped which allow for them to move independently. This layer gives you the push back you need and minimises edge collapse.

5. Base Polyurethane Layer

Polyurethane is the industry standard as a base layer. It is great as a foundation layer because of its dense form and also keeps the mattress together.

How Thick Is the Brook and Wilde Mattress?

The total mattress thickness is 28cm, this is 3cm thicker than the average mattress but your bed sheets will still work fine with the Brook and Wilde and the mattress will hold up to 18 stone or 114kg per person (based on a bed with two people).

Brook and Wilde Mattress Firmness

This is what sets the Brook and Wilde mattress apart from the other mattresses, they don’t offer a “one size fits all” mattress but rather offer their mattresses in 3 degrees of firmness. Soft, medium and firm. According to our Brook and Wilde mattress review, the firmness ranges from 4-7 out of 10.

Depending on your preference, of course, we would recommend the appropriate firmness. If you are struggling to find the right mattress for you, then take note of your sleeping position as side sleepers usually need a soft to medium feeling mattress whereas back and stomach sleepers could do with a medium to firm mattress.

If you are not satisfied with the firmness of your mattress, Brook and Wilde will exchange the whole mattress (please do confirm with Brook + Wilde beforehand as this may change), and the exchanged mattress gets donated to the British Heart Foundation.

Mattress Design

The look the Brook and Wilde mattress has is one of our favourites, it clearly looks like a quality mattress thanks to its unique design pattern on the white upper section. However, it is very likely you will place a cover over, at least you can rest assured you have a good looking mattress beneath you.

It will be delivered at no cost to you, they can even take away your old mattress and recycle it which comes at a small fee of around £25. Brook and Wilde have created a perfect equilibrium between luxury and practicality.

The Brook and Wilde mattress also comes with a 10-year guarantee, this is standard in the industry but still shows the confidence they have in their mattress.

Brook and Wilde really stand out when it comes to service compared to our other mattress reviews. Service goes a long way these days as it not only shows you are appreciated but your request get solved quicker.

Mattress Delivery & Box

In this area Brook and Wilde truly shine. The mattress is vacuum-sealed and rolled in a neat 100cm x 50cm 50cm box for transportation. Delivery is within 3 days of order, this is one of the shortest delivery periods currently available for the “bed in a box” industry here in the UK.

The mattress is delivered using a two-man service that will bring the mattress to your room of choice, this is not common and is a great option for those who may need help getting the mattress upstairs. As previously described they can also take your old mattress as they leave and recycle it for you.
