Otty Pure Pro Hybrid Mattress Review

The best value in Otty's catalogue. Three thousand pocket springs for fifteen pounds more than the model below it, which only exists because nobody reads range sheets carefully.

Verdict

8.3/ 10From £539.99 UK single, direct

The best value in Otty's catalogue and one of the strongest specification-to-price propositions in the UK. Three thousand pocket springs for fifteen pounds more than the model below it, which is the sort of pricing anomaly that only exists because nobody reads range sheets carefully.

Buy it if

You want the most spring Otty offers without going to the 4000, and you are comfortable with a firm mattress.

Avoid it if

You are a light side sleeper. Seven out of ten with 3,000 springs underneath is a lot of pushback.

The fifteen pound anomaly

Line up Otty's Pure range by price and something odd appears.

Fifteen pounds separates the Pure Hybrid Bamboo from the Pure Pro, and the Pure Pro carries roughly a thousand more springs. In a category where brands routinely charge two hundred pounds for a spec bump, that is close to a rounding error.

If you were going to buy the Pure Hybrid Bamboo, buy this instead. There is no version of the arithmetic where fifteen pounds is not worth a thousand springs.

The scores

Overall
8.3 / 10

The best price-to-construction ratio in the Otty range, which is saying something.

Value
10 / 10

Three thousand tall pocket springs at 540 pounds. Nothing in the UK beats that per pound.

Support
9 / 10

More springs across the same area means finer support gradation and more even load.

Temperature
8 / 10

Bamboo cover over a deep spring layer. Otty's construction handles heat well throughout.

Edge support
8 / 10

Reinforced side panels, consistent across the range.

Motion isolation
8 / 10

Three thousand individually pocketed springs damp movement better than 2,000 do.

Trial and guarantee
7 / 10

100 nights, which is short for a mattress this firm.

Where more springs actually helps, and where it stops

I am cautious about spring counts on this site, and this is a case where the extra springs genuinely earn their place, so it is worth explaining the distinction.

Going from 2,000 to 3,000 springs across the same surface means each spring covers a smaller area. That gives finer gradation: the mattress responds to the shape of your hip rather than to the general region your hip is in. For a heavier sleeper or anyone with a pronounced difference between shoulder and waist, that matters.

What it does not do is make the mattress softer or firmer in itself. Firmness comes from spring gauge and the comfort layers above. This is why Otty can offer 2,000 springs at 9 out of 10 in the Extra Firm and 4,000 springs at 5 out of 10 in the Pure+. Count and firmness are independent, and anyone who tells you more springs means a firmer bed has it wrong.

The point at which more springs stops helping is roughly where the springs get short enough that they stop being a support core. Otty does not have that problem because its springs stay tall across the range.

Pure Pro or Original Hybrid?

Forty pounds apart, both at 7 out of 10. The Original has up to 2,000 springs at 16 cm. The Pure Pro has up to 3,000 and the bamboo cover.

For most people I would still start with the Original, because it is the model with the longest track record and the largest owner base, and its 16 cm springs are the tallest Otty makes. For a heavier sleeper, or anyone who wants finer support gradation, the Pure Pro is the better mattress and forty pounds is not a real consideration on an eight year purchase.

Should you buy it?

Yes. This is the mattress I would point someone at if they asked for the best value hybrid in Britain and did not want to buy from a brand without a UK track record.

The only caveat is firmness. Seven out of ten with 3,000 springs is genuinely firm and Otty's trial is only 100 nights, which is less room for error than Emma's 200 or Nectar's 365.

Compare it with the Original Hybrid, or see the full Otty range review.

Questions people ask

Otty Pure Pro or Otty Pure Hybrid Bamboo?

The Pure Pro, without hesitation. Fifteen pounds separates them and the Pure Pro carries roughly a thousand more springs. There is no version of that arithmetic where fifteen pounds is not worth a thousand springs.

Does a higher spring count make a mattress firmer?

No. Firmness comes from spring gauge and the comfort layers above. Otty offers 2,000 springs at 9 out of 10 in the Extra Firm and 4,000 springs at 5 out of 10 in the Pure+. Count and firmness are independent.

Otty Pure Pro or Otty Original Hybrid?

Start with the Original for most people, because it has the longest track record and the tallest springs at 16cm. For a heavier sleeper, or anyone wanting finer support gradation, the Pure Pro's 3,000 springs is the better mattress.
