Panda Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Review
A competent hybrid wrapped in genuinely nice bamboo materials, from a brand whose strongest products are not its mattresses.

Verdict
A competent hybrid wrapped in genuinely nice bamboo materials, sold by a brand whose strongest products are not its mattresses. Nine hundred and sixty springs at 25 centimetres is a modest spring count in 2026, and the bamboo is doing more of the persuasion than the construction is.
Buy it if
You want bamboo materials specifically, you value the recycling service, and spring count is not what you are optimising for.
Avoid it if
You are comparing on construction. Origin, Otty and Nectar's Premier all give you substantially more spring at similar or lower prices.

What bamboo genuinely does, and what it does not
Panda's entire proposition rests on bamboo, so it deserves a straight answer rather than either the marketing version or a cynical dismissal.
What it does. Bamboo viscose is soft, drapes well, and handles moisture better than polyester. It wicks rather than holding sweat against the skin, which is why a bamboo cover feels pleasanter on a warm night than a synthetic one. That is a real, noticeable benefit and Panda's covers are among the nicest in the category.
What it does not do. Bamboo viscose is not a thermoregulating material in any meaningful sense. The processing that turns bamboo into a usable fibre is chemically intensive and the resulting fabric behaves much like other viscose fabrics. It helps at the surface. It does nothing for heat trapped in the layers beneath, which is where the problem actually sits.
The honest framing: buy Panda for the feel of the cover, which is genuinely good. Do not buy it expecting bamboo to solve a heat problem. Airflow through a deep spring layer solves heat problems, and 960 springs at 25 centimetres is a modest amount of airflow.
The scores
Pleasant materials on an ordinary spring count, from a brand that makes better pillows than mattresses.
You are paying for the cover and the ethics. On springs per pound it loses to most rivals.
Around 960 springs at 25cm is adequate at average build and unremarkable.
Bamboo cover helps at the surface. The spring layer beneath is not deep enough to do much.
No specific reinforcement claimed. Better than foam, short of Otty.
Pocketed springs with foam above. Fine for most couples.
Standard for the category, and the recycling service is a genuine extra.
The recycling service is worth more than it looks
Panda collects your old mattress for recycling whether or not it is one of theirs, and this is the most undervalued thing about buying from them.
Mattress disposal in the UK is a genuine nuisance and a genuine cost. Council bulky waste collections typically charge somewhere in the region of 20 to 40 pounds and often require you to get the mattress to the kerb yourself. Around seven million mattresses go to UK landfill each year, and a mattress is one of the least landfill-friendly objects in a house.
Factor the avoided cost into your price comparison. It is worth more than most of the bundled pillows other brands advertise, and nobody counts it.
The better Panda products
I would rather tell you this plainly than have you buy the mattress by default.
Panda's strongest products are its Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper and its pillows. The topper is expensive at list and genuinely good, and a topper is a far lower-risk purchase than a mattress. The Hybrid Bamboo Pillow has an adjustable fill, which means it suits most people and is hard to get wrong.
If you have arrived at Panda because you like the idea of bamboo bedding, buy the topper and a pillow and put a better-specified mattress underneath. That combination gives you the bamboo surface you wanted and the spring core the mattress does not have.
Should you buy it?
If bamboo and the recycling service matter to you and you are of average build, this is a perfectly good mattress and you will not regret it.
If you are comparing specifications, it does not win. The Origin Hybrid at 265 pounds has up to 3,000 springs and 26 centimetres, and the Otty Original has springs three times the height.

Questions people ask
Is a bamboo mattress cooler?
At the surface, yes. Bamboo viscose wicks moisture better than polyester, so it feels pleasanter on a warm night. It does nothing for heat trapped in the layers beneath, which is where the problem sits. Airflow through a deep spring layer solves heat problems, not covers.
Is the Panda Hybrid Bamboo worth it?
If bamboo and the recycling service matter to you and you are of average build, yes. On construction it loses: around 960 springs at 25cm is modest in 2026, and Origin gives you up to 3,000 springs at 26cm for less.
Does Panda take away your old mattress?
Yes, any brand, free. UK council bulky waste collections typically charge 20 to 40 pounds and often require you to move the mattress yourself, so factor the avoided cost into your price comparison. It is worth more than most bundled pillows.
