Emma Original Pro Mattress Review

The Emma to buy if you want an Emma and you sleep hot. Thermosync is the brand's best thermal work. It is still all foam at hybrid money, and the edges are still its weakness.

The Original Pro is the Emma to buy if you want an Emma and you sleep hot. Thermosync is the brand's best thermal work and 27 centimetres gives it room to breathe. It is still an all-foam mattress at hybrid money, and the edges are still its weakness.

Buy it if

You want the Emma feel and the Emma returns operation, you sleep warm, and motion isolation matters more to you than edge support.

Avoid it if

You sit on the edge of your bed, or you are comparing purely on construction. Hybrids at this price give you a spring core.

The scores

Overall
7 / 10

Emma's best all-round foam mattress, and still all foam at a hybrid price.

Value
6 / 10

Two hundred pounds more than the Original for two centimetres, one layer and Thermosync.

Support
7 / 10

Twenty-seven centimetres gives more to compress. Still a foam base at heart.

Temperature
8 / 10

Thermosync is Emma's strongest technical work and the main reason to choose this model.

Edge support
4 / 10

Unchanged from the Original. No perimeter reinforcement, and it shows.

Motion isolation
9 / 10

Deeper foam than the Original, so even better. A restless partner disappears.

Trial and guarantee
8 / 10

200 nights and a returns process that works. Guarantee conditions cost it points.

What Thermosync actually does

Thermosync is Emma's temperature regulation system and it is the single reason to choose the Pro over the Original.

The principle is sound. Materials that conduct heat away from the surface, combined with an open structure that lets air move, reduce the heat trapping that makes deep memory foam uncomfortable. Emma has put real engineering into this and owners of the Pro report running cooler than owners of the Original.

What it does not do is turn a 27 cm foam mattress into a hybrid. Air moves through a spring layer far more freely than through any foam structure, however open. If heat is your primary problem, the honest advice is to buy a sprung mattress rather than a better foam one. If you want foam for the motion isolation and you also sleep warm, Thermosync is the best compromise available and this is the mattress to buy.

Pro or Original?

The gap is around 170 pounds and you get two centimetres of depth, a sixth layer and Thermosync.

My view: if you have already decided on an Emma, the Pro is worth the money, because the extra depth genuinely helps and heat is the most common complaint about the Original. Emma owners rate the Pro 4.7 against the Original's 4.6, and the gap is wider than it looks given the Pro costs more.

If you have not decided on an Emma, 539 pounds buys an Otty Original Hybrid with 16 cm pocket springs and reinforced edges, and that is a structurally superior mattress. The question is whether you want foam or springs, not which Emma.

The edge problem does not improve

Worth being explicit, because the Pro's higher price and greater depth might suggest otherwise. It does not have perimeter reinforcement. Sitting on the edge compresses it much as the Original does, and if anything the extra depth makes the compression more noticeable.

If you sit on the edge to dress, share a double and sleep towards your own side, or push off the edge to stand, this remains the wrong category of mattress and no amount of Emma's foam engineering changes it.

Should you buy it?

Yes if you want an Emma. This is the model where the range starts making sense, and Thermosync addresses the most legitimate complaint about the brand.

No if you are choosing on construction. At 539 pounds you can have a real spring core, better edges and better airflow from Otty or Origin.

The Original Pro is the best version of a mattress I would not choose. That is not the same as a bad mattress, and if foam is what you want, this is Emma's best.

Questions people ask

What does Thermosync do in the Emma Original Pro?

It combines heat-conducting materials with an open foam structure to reduce the heat trapping that makes deep memory foam uncomfortable. Emma owners of the Pro report running cooler than owners of the Original. It does not move air the way a spring layer does, because no foam structure can.

Emma Original or Original Pro?

If you have decided on an Emma, the Pro is worth the 170 pound step. The extra depth helps and heat is the most common complaint about the Original. If you have not decided, 539 pounds buys an Otty Original Hybrid with 16cm pocket springs and reinforced edges.

Does the Emma Original Pro have better edge support?

No. It has no perimeter reinforcement, the same as the rest of Emma's foam range. If anything the extra depth makes the edge compression more noticeable. If you sit on the edge of your bed, this is the wrong category of mattress.
