Most modern mattress guarantees require slats no more than about 7.5 centimetres apart. Wider gaps are a common exclusion and manufacturers do enforce it.

Sheet depth. Standard UK fitted sheets are cut for around 25 centimetres. Buy deep sheets sized for the actual mattress on the same day, or you will be straightening corners for years.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 your statutory rights sit with whoever sold you the mattress, not the manufacturer. Goods must be of satisfactory quality and last a reasonable length of time, and you have up to six years to bring a claim in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, five in Scotland.
A good mattress from a retailer that argues is a worse purchase than an ordinary one from a retailer that does not. Buying frame and mattress from one seller also means one party is responsible for both, rather than two blaming each other.
