Panda Kids Bamboo Pillow Review
A pillow sized for a child, and the specification that matters is height, for a reason people consistently get wrong.

Verdict
A pillow sized for a child, and the specification that matters is height, for a reason people consistently get wrong. A child needs a much lower pillow than an adult, and giving them an adult one is the most common cause of children complaining about their neck.
Buy it if
Your child is over about two, sleeping in a bed, and needs a properly low pillow.
Avoid it if
Your child is under 12 months. Babies should sleep with nothing in the cot at all.

| Washability | Check the cover removes. Children's pillows need washing often. |
The scores
Correctly low, which is the thing children's pillows most often get wrong.
Not cheap for a small pillow, and children's bedding rarely is.
Low loft. The specification that actually matters here.
Good once the child is genuinely ready for a pillow.
Children run hot. A bamboo cover handles moisture, which is what you notice.
The height can be changed after sleeping on it, which removes the guess.
Essential on a child's pillow. Check what washes.
Why a child needs a much lower pillow
The job of a pillow is to fill the gap between your head and the mattress created by your shoulder, so the neck stays in line with the spine.
A child's shoulders are much narrower than an adult's, so the gap is much smaller. An adult pillow under a child's head pushes the neck into flexion, tilting the chin toward the chest all night.
That is the usual reason a child complains of a sore neck or simply pushes the pillow off, and it is almost always read as fussiness rather than as the child being right.
The check is the same as for an adult. Have them lie in the position they actually sleep in for a few minutes, then look at them from behind. Their neck should be a straight continuation of their spine, and their head should not be propped forward.
Re-check it every year or so. As a child grows their shoulders widen and the gap increases, so the right pillow height changes with them.
When a child should get a pillow at all
Not before 12 months
Safer sleep guidance is that babies under 12 months should sleep on a firm, flat mattress with nothing else in the cot: no pillow, no duvet, no bumpers, no soft toys.
The Lullaby Trust and the NHS are the authoritative UK sources, and your health visitor is the person to ask about your own child.
Beyond that there is no correct age. A pillow usually arrives when a child moves from a cot to a bed, commonly somewhere between 18 months and three years, and the trigger for that move is normally climbing out of the cot rather than a birthday.
When it does arrive, it should be low and firm rather than plush. A soft pillow collapses under a small head, and a child cannot tell you that the loft is wrong in those terms.
What the bamboo cover does, and the question to ask
Bamboo-derived fabric handles moisture better than polyester, wicking rather than holding sweat against the skin. Children run hotter than adults, so that is a genuine benefit rather than a claim.
On sustainability, the plant is good and the processing is where the case weakens. Most bamboo fabric is bamboo viscose, made by a process that typically does not recover its chemicals. Lyocell uses a closed-loop process where the solvent is recovered, and that is part of the definition rather than a claim.
Ask which process was used. Brands using closed-loop processing usually say so, because it costs more and they want the credit.
A correction worth making
Commonly repeated, and wrong
Children's pillows are chosen by shrinking the adult decision, and the geometry is different. A pillow fills the gap between head and mattress created by the shoulder, and a child's shoulders are much narrower than an adult's, so the gap is much smaller. An adult pillow under a child's head pushes the neck into flexion all night, which is the usual reason a child complains of a sore neck or pushes the pillow off, and it is usually read as fussiness.
Should you buy it?
Yes for a child over about two who is sleeping in a bed and needs a properly low pillow.
Nothing in the cot at all under 12 months. Check the height by looking at them from behind, and re-check every year or so as their shoulders widen.
Questions people ask
Why does my child push their pillow off?
Usually because it is too high. A pillow fills the gap between head and mattress created by the shoulder, and a child's shoulders are much narrower, so the gap is much smaller. An adult pillow pushes their neck into flexion all night.
When should a child have a pillow?
Not before 12 months, when safer sleep guidance is nothing in the cot at all. Beyond that there is no correct age, and it usually arrives when a child moves to a bed. It should be low and firm rather than plush.
