Verdict

6.8/ 10

A budget foam topper, and since this site has covered the 25 millimetre rule several times, the useful thing here is the problem nobody mentions until the third night: toppers slide, and a topper that migrates across the bed is worse than no topper at all.

Buy it if

Your mattress is sound but too firm, you do not sleep hot, and you have a plan for keeping the topper in place.

Avoid it if

Your mattress has dipped more than about 25 millimetres. No topper solves that.

The scores

Overall
6.8 / 10

Does its job at a low price, with the practical problem every topper has.

Value
8 / 10

Cheap, which is Inofia's genuine strength.

Softening
5 / 10

A mild change. If your mattress is genuinely too hard, this will not be enough.

Temperature
5 / 10

Adding foam to a bed makes it warmer, not cooler.

Stability
5 / 10

A topper does not provide support. Scoring it otherwise would mislead.

Durability
5 / 10

Will flatten within a few years, which is normal at this construction.

Trial and guarantee
5 / 10

Shorter terms than established brands. Check before ordering.

Toppers slide, and here is how to stop it

The problem nobody mentions

A topper is a separate slab sitting loose on a mattress. Every time you get in or out of bed it moves a little, and within a week it is sitting diagonally with a corner hanging off.

Three fixes, in order of effectiveness.

Elastic corner straps. Many toppers include them and they work. Check whether the one you are buying has them before ordering, because retrofitting is awkward.

A deep fitted sheet over both together. The most reliable method. Measure the mattress depth plus the topper depth and buy a fitted sheet for that combined figure. A 28 centimetre mattress with a 5 centimetre topper needs a 33 centimetre sheet, and a standard sheet cut for 25 will not come close.

A non-slip underlay. A thin grip mat between mattress and topper, of the kind sold for rugs. Cheap, and it works where straps are absent.

Whichever you choose, sort it on the first day. A topper that is annoying you by week two will end up in a cupboard, which is money spent for nothing.

And measure the mattress first

The 25 millimetre rule

A topper changes firmness. It does not change support.

If your mattress has a dip of more than about 25 millimetres, a topper will follow that dip within a few weeks and the money is gone. Lay a straight edge across the mattress and measure the gap at its deepest point.

And choose on heat rather than thickness. A memory foam topper on a hybrid sits above the springs and cuts you off from the airflow that was doing the cooling. If you sleep warm, buy wool or a micro-spring topper instead.

A correction worth making

Commonly repeated, and wrong

Mattress toppers are compared on thickness, firmness and price, and the practical problem that decides whether one gets used is never mentioned: a topper is a separate slab sitting loose on a mattress and it migrates every time someone gets in or out of bed. Elastic corner straps, a deep fitted sheet sized for the mattress and topper together, or a non-slip underlay all solve it, and a topper that is annoying by week two ends up in a cupboard.

Should you buy it?

Yes if your mattress is sound and too firm, you do not sleep hot, and you sort the anchoring on day one.

Measure the mattress for a dip first, and buy a fitted sheet sized for the mattress plus the topper rather than the mattress alone.

Questions people ask

How do I stop a mattress topper sliding?

Three fixes. Elastic corner straps, if the topper has them. A deep fitted sheet sized for the mattress and topper together, which is the most reliable. Or a thin non-slip grip mat between the two. Sort it on day one.

What size fitted sheet do I need with a topper?

Measure the mattress depth plus the topper depth. A 28cm mattress with a 5cm topper needs a 33cm sheet, and a standard sheet cut for 25cm will not come close.
