Rem-Fit Pocket 1000 Hybrid Mattress Review
Rem-Fit's entry hybrid and a reasonable one, which is more than most entry models manage. Firm is the right way to build cheap.

Verdict
Rem-Fit's entry hybrid and a reasonable one, which is more than most entry models manage. One thousand springs at a stated 7 out of 10 is firm for a budget mattress, and firm is the right way to build cheap: it is soft mattresses with low spring counts that fail.
Buy it if
You want a firm budget hybrid, you are of average build, and you prefer springs to foam at this price.
Avoid it if
You are a side sleeper, or you are over about fifteen stone. One thousand springs is not much gradation.

The scores
Sensible budget engineering. Firm, sprung, and honest about what it is.
Three hundred and fifty pounds for a genuine spring core is fair, if not exceptional.
One thousand springs is modest gradation. Firm construction compensates at average build.
A spring layer at this price point handles heat better than foam would.
Ordinary. No reinforcement claimed.
Fewer springs means more grouping, so more transfer than a higher count.
Standard terms, and Rem-Fit's discount schemes are unusually broad.
Rem-Fit renamed everything
The names changed
Rem-Fit renamed its mattress range. The old 400, 500 and 600 numbering was replaced by the Pocket 1000, 3000 Supreme, 4000 Ortho Elite, 5000 Lux Elite and Natural Lux. Older reviews and retailer listings still use the previous names, so check the specification rather than the number when comparing. The new numbers refer to spring counts, which is at least more informative than the old ones.
Why firm is the right way to build cheap
There is a principle here worth carrying to every budget mattress you look at.
A soft mattress works by letting you sink, which means the mattress has to form itself around your shape. That requires a high spring count so each region responds independently. With few springs, regions respond as groups, the heaviest parts sink together and the spine bends. That is the hammock effect and it is where cheap soft mattresses fail.
A firm mattress does not have that problem, because you are not sinking far enough for grouping to matter. So a budget mattress built firm with 1,000 springs is engineering within its means. A budget mattress built soft with 1,000 springs is a mistake.
Rem-Fit has built this one at 7 out of 10 and that is the correct decision.
A correction worth making
Commonly repeated, and wrong
Budget mattresses are commonly criticised for being too firm, as though firmness were a cost-cutting measure. It is usually the opposite: a firm build is how a manufacturer makes a low spring count work safely. Softness is what costs money, because a soft surface needs a high spring count to avoid the spine bending under the heaviest parts of the body. A cheap firm mattress is sound engineering. A cheap soft one rarely is.
Should you buy it?
Yes for a firm budget hybrid at average build, and it is a more honest purchase than a soft mattress at the same price.
The Origin Hybrid at 265 pounds gives you up to 3,000 springs and 26 centimetres, which is more mattress for less money if you are willing to buy from a smaller brand.
Questions people ask
Is a firm mattress a sign of a cheap mattress?
Usually the opposite. A firm build is how a manufacturer makes a low spring count work safely, because you are not sinking far enough for the springs to group. Softness is what costs money: a soft surface needs a high spring count to stop the spine bending.
