Aeyla Bamboo Pillowcase Review
A pillowcase is the cheapest meaningful upgrade in bedding and the one nobody thinks about.

Verdict
A pillowcase is the cheapest meaningful upgrade in bedding and the one nobody thinks about. You are not sleeping on your pillow, you are sleeping on the case, and a cheap polyester one undoes whatever you paid for underneath it.
Buy it if
You want the cheapest change that will actually alter how your bed feels, or you have hair or skin reasons for wanting a smooth case.
Avoid it if
You want crisp cotton percale, which is a different and equally valid preference.

| Specification | Detail |
|---|---|
| Fibre | Bamboo-derived fabric |
| What it sits on | Directly against your face for eight hours |
| Why it matters | A case is an insulating and moisture-holding layer over whatever pillow you bought |
| Hair and skin | Smooth fabrics reduce friction. See below for what that does and does not mean. |
| Care | Wash cool. High heat damages most cellulose fibres. |
The scores
The cheapest change that genuinely alters how a bed feels.
A case costs a fraction of a pillow and affects the experience more.
Holds its set height under a head all night, which is the property that decides a pillow.
Better than polyester by a wide margin, which is what you notice.
The height can be changed after sleeping on it, which removes the guess.
Strong on this, and it is one of the reasons to buy it.
Reasonable with cool washing. Cellulose fibres dislike high heat.
The case matters more than the pillow
The layer nobody accounts for
Whatever pillow you bought, and whatever cooling treatment or fill it has, you are not sleeping on it. You are sleeping on a pillowcase.
A cheap polyester case is an insulating layer between your face and the pillow. It also holds moisture against the skin rather than moving it away, which is the thing people actually experience as sleeping hot.
So the order of operations most people follow is backwards. They spend sixty pounds on a cooling pillow and put a five pound polyester case on it.
If you want a cooler bed and you can spend ten or fifteen pounds, change the pillowcase before anything else. It is the single highest ratio of effect to cost in bedding, and it is reversible in a way a mattress is not.
Hair and skin, honestly
Smooth pillowcases are marketed for hair and skin, and there is a real mechanism underneath claims that are usually overstated.
The mechanism is friction. A rougher fabric such as standard cotton creates more drag against hair as you move during the night. Less friction means less mechanical stress on the hair shaft, which means less breakage and less morning frizz. The same friction reduction means fewer sleep creases pressed into skin.
What that genuinely delivers. Noticeably less bed hair and fewer creases in the morning, particularly for longer, curlier or chemically treated hair. Those are real and most people notice them within a week.
What it does not deliver. It does not treat acne, reverse ageing or grow hair. Claims in that territory are running well ahead of anything established.
Honest summary: a smooth pillowcase is a small, real improvement in a couple of specific ways, available for the price of a takeaway. That is a reasonable thing to buy. It is not skincare.
Bamboo, and the question to ask
Bamboo grows quickly without irrigation or pesticides, which makes the raw material genuinely good. The processing is where the environmental case weakens.
Most bamboo fabric is bamboo viscose, produced by a process that typically does not recover its chemicals. Lyocell, by contrast, uses a closed-loop process where the solvent is recovered and reused, and that is part of the definition rather than a claim.
So the question to ask any bamboo bedding seller is which process was used. Brands that use a closed-loop process usually say so, because it costs more and they want the credit. Brands that do not, do not mention it.
On feel and performance the two are similar. On the environmental claim, only one of them is checkable from the label.
A correction worth making
Commonly repeated, and wrong
Pillow performance is discussed entirely in terms of the pillow, and the sleeper is never actually in contact with it. A pillowcase sits between the face and the pillow for eight hours, and a cheap polyester case both insulates and holds moisture against the skin, which undoes whatever cooling fill or treatment was paid for underneath. The case costs a fraction of the pillow and has more effect on how the pillow feels.
Should you buy it?
Yes, and buy it before you buy a better pillow. A case costs a fraction of the price and changes the experience more, which makes it the best value purchase in bedding.
Ask which process the bamboo used if the environmental claim matters to you. And if you want the crisp hotel feel rather than a smooth one, buy cotton percale instead, which is a different preference rather than a worse one.
Questions people ask
Does a pillowcase affect how cool a pillow feels?
A great deal, because you are not sleeping on the pillow, you are sleeping on the case. A cheap polyester case insulates you from the pillow and holds moisture against the skin, which undoes whatever cooling fill or treatment you paid for.
Are silk or bamboo pillowcases better for hair and skin?
There is a real mechanism: less friction means less mechanical stress on the hair shaft, so less breakage and frizz, and fewer sleep creases pressed into skin. Those are genuine. They do not treat acne, reverse ageing or grow hair.
Is bamboo fabric sustainable?
The plant is genuinely good, and the processing is where the case weakens. Most bamboo fabric is viscose, made by a process that typically does not recover its chemicals. Ask which process was used: brands using closed-loop processing usually say so, because it costs more.
