IKEA Hövåg Mattress Review

Last updated:

The Ikea Hövåg Mattress is an interesting product from Ikea. Coming in at the budget end of the mattress industry, this pocket sprung mattress might be worth your consideration if you are looking for an inexpensive option or perhaps even a mattress for the spare bedroom.

This Ikea Hövåg Mattress review will highlight the good, the bad and the surprising all in one post. Follow along as we explore the this Ikea mattress. Alternatively, for those who prefer compacted information, you can check out our summary at the end.

Ikea Hövåg Mattress Construction

The Ikea Hövåg Mattress was designed by Synnöve Mork, Ikea. The designer took special care in making a cover that looks good but that also provides some comfort and support. But, we will get to the cover later.

The Ikea Hövåg Mattress is a pocket sprung mattress that has been combined with foam elements for extra comfort. The foam surrounds the steel springs, keeping them in place below the sleeper.

This was designed in this way to provide extra support for the springs, which are the core of the mattress.

Ikea Hövåg Mattress Cover

The Ikea Hövåg Mattress has a clean and simple cover. Unfortunately, the cover cannot be removed and washed. Ikea suggests that you use furniture shampoo for cleaning the mattress.

The cover itself is made exclusively from cotton and polyester, which were used to produce a stretchy top layer. This design was engineered to move with you as you sleep, maximising comfort.

The cover includes 4 mattress handles for rotation of the mattress head-to-toe, this mattress from Ikea is a one-sided mattress and should not be flipped over.

Ikea Hövåg Mattress Layers

The Ikea Hövåg Pocket Sprung Mattress is complete with pocket springs and finished with poly-foam designed to provide comfort to the sleeper and support for the springs.

Pocket Spring Layer

The pocket springs used are made from steel and are individually wrapped. This layer was designed to maximise support in all the right places. Each spring moves independently and responds to your body, moving as you do following closely to your body.

The Ikea Hövåg Pocket Sprung Mattress was designed to also be breathable, allowing air to flow thanks to its core being made out of mostly the pocket spring layer. This basically means that the air flows through the spaces in between the springs and isn’t blocked by the foam as the foams sit on the outside of the mattress.

Memory foam mattresses can be associated with heat retention.

Foam Layers

The foam layers in the Ikea Mattress are made from polyurethane foam, which is a firm and supportive foam, usually used in the base of a mattress.

One of the foam layers sits around the spring layer providing support for the springs and the sides of the mattress. Another foam layer sits above the spring layer as an added comfort layer, separating the springs from the sleeper for increased comfort.

This was designed to allow you to feel the full effects of the springs without being in direct contact with the firm steel springs.

How Thick is The Ikea Hövåg Mattress?

The Ikea Hövåg Mattress stands at 24cm tall, this is around the standard height in the mattress industry. Given that this is a budget mattress option, it is good to see that it still meets the average height measurement.

Hövåg Mattress Firmness

The Ikea Hövåg Pocket Sprung Mattress is available in 2 different firmness options. These are a medium-firm feel and a firm feel mattress. In terms of comfort, the medium-firm feel mattress was designed to allow for more sinking into the mattress and more cradling support.

The firm feel mattress was designed to be more stable with less sinking into the mattress, this is the ideal option for heavier sleepers.

Mattress Design

The Ikea Hövåg Pocket Sprung Mattress has a white surface, with dark grey sides as a finish.

The design of Ikea products is handled by designer Synnöve Mork whose design philosophy revolves around practical use as well as aesthetics. So, the mattress must look good but must also have a practical use for the sleeper.

Ikea Hövåg Trial Period & Warranty

The Ikea Hövåg Mattress does include a warranty period, however, it is not like the usual trial periods that are on the market.

With your purchase, you receive a 90-day trial period, with the option to trade your product for another if you aren’t satisfied. Other trial mattress brands offer a full refund with their trial period, but seeing as this is a budget option, it makes sense that they offer trades instead of a full refund.

This Ikea product comes with a 25-year guarantee included. This guarantee ensures that the product will last a solid 25 years or else it’s covered, we suggest checking the guarantee details extensively to check all T&C’s related to you.

Mattress Delivery & Box

An interesting piece of information regarding Ikea is that their mattresses are rolled instead of vacuum-sealed and boxed. This not only saves space but also reduces transport costs.

If those benefits weren’t enough, this process also ensures that Ikea has fewer trucks on the road, reducing their carbon footprint. This actively impacts the environment in a positive way. The final benefit from rolling their mattresses is that it is easier to move around and transport for the customer, making it easier to move into your home.

Unfortunately, Ikea does not offer free delivery, which means that delivery is a paid-extra from them. The Ikea Mattress is available for sale on Amazon as well, who have their own delivery options.
