Written by Kyle

Last Updated: 1st January, 2022

In this Nectar vs Simba mattress comparison review, we bring together possibly the most disruptive mattress against one of the most demanded hybrid mattresses in the UK. We lay them side by side and compare their differences but which comes out on top?

While one is an all-foam mattress, the other one is a hybrid mattress which can sometimes be a bit pointless to compare as they can be very different. However, you'll see that despite being different types of mattresses they perform very similar on many points but there are a few key differences.

One of them is designed to provide a cooler night's sleep while the other one has an unbeatable trial period and warranty. Keep reading to find out which one suits you best.

Comparison Table in Conclusion

Although we highlight the most important aspects of this Nectar vs Simba comparison we would also highly recommend looking at our full in-depth mattress reviews:

Nectar vs Simba Mattress Construction

In this mattress comparison, we first and foremost need to keep in mind that we're comparing a foam mattress against a hybrid mattress, although the foam is predominant, which means that there will be some obvious differences and it might come down to personal preferences in the end.

While both mattresses measure 25 cm deep, the Nectar contains three layers of foam while the Simba also features three layers of foam plus one more layer of mini springs, officially making it a hybrid. We will get more into the functionality of the springs later on in this review.

Cover Comparison

Nectar Cover

The cover of the Nectar is made of polyester and designed to draw heat away from your body while sleeping. It features a diamond pattern and the bottom half of the cover incorporates non-slip elements so your mattress stays in place all through the night. This cover is not removable and spot cleaning is advised.

Simba Cover

The Simba cover is also made from 100% polyester which gives a stretchy feel to it and comes with handles on the sides. It's hypoallergenic and made without the use of any harmful chemicals, making it suitable for those with more easily irritable skin or allergies. The pattern is also diamond-shaped (smaller than the Nectar) and this cover is also not removable or machine washable.

The two covers are almost identical both in design and functionality. Both have a soft and stretchy feel that isn't going to wrinkle and make you sleep on uncomfortable creases. None of them is removable or machine washable but the Nectar has a non-slip feature at the bottom of the mattress while the Simba pushes for being hypoallergenic and has handles on the sides.

Materials and Layer Comparison

The main difference between a hybrid mattress and a foam mattress is the feeling when you lay down on it. Foam mattresses tend to give a more hugging feeling and mould very easily to your body. Hybrid mattresses often have a bit more bounce to them, making it easier to shift position or getting out of bed.

As previously mentioned, the Simba mattress is considered a hybrid mattress as it contains a combination of foam and spring layers. The springs are however not standard-sized springs, but mini-springs of a few cm so you will not necessarily have the same, springy feel as in some other hybrid mattresses, yet a bit more than in an all-foam mattress such as the Nectar.

Let's look under the cover of both mattresses to see exactly how they are structured and what the different layers do:

Nectar Layers

The Nectar mattress is made up of 3 foam layers, each with its own function:

  • Top foam layer - The top one is a polyfoam layer called a Dynamic Support Layer which is placed on top of the memory foam layer to help prevent heat retention which is common in memory foam.
  • Middle memory foam layer - Used to transition pressure disparities seamlessly throughout the mattress, ensuring optimal spinal alignment.
  • Supportive base layer - A sturdy foam layer provides necessary support and includes cut out channels to allow for more give in the shoulder and hip areas.

Simba Layers

Inside the Simba Hybrid Mattress you will find 4 unique layers:

  • Top comfort layer - This layer is a graphite infused Simbatex® open cell foam layer which main aim is to help you sleep cooler at night. The open cell foam contains more air pores than normal foam which allows for better airflow and the graphite has cooling properties.
  • Conical pocket springs - These are the mini conically shaped springs which add a bit of bounce to the mattress. The Simba Hybrid has up to 2,500 springs in a king size mattress.
  • High definition foam layer - This layer acts as a transition layer between the base and the springs. Simba has opted for changing out the memory foam thy previously had in this layer for a polyurethane layer that retains less heat
  • Polyfoam base foam - Adds support and includes zoning areas to allow for more sinkage for extruding areas like the hip and shoulder area to ensure optimal spinal alignment.

This is probably the most difficult aspect to compare as the Nectar is a memory foam mattress and the Simba a hybrid. Nevertheless, we feel the Simba mattress may be a more balanced mattress offering the benefit of unique foam compositions and mini pocket spring whereas the Nectar mattress would be better for those looking for a foam-only mattress with less bounce.

Nectar vs Simba Firmness & Feel

Nectar Firmness

The Nectar mattress is ranked a 6,5 on the firmness scale with 10 being the firmest. It is comfortably adapting to your body while providing the necessary support.

Simba Firmness

The mix of foam and pocket springs gives the mattress a comfortable and responsive feel. Yet still supportive enough to balance out your bodyweight evenly.  This one is also placed on 6,5 out of 10.

Both Nectar and Simba offer a relatively equal feeling mattress. This is a common placement for all online mattresses sold in a box as they appeal to the majority of sleepers in the UK. Which mattress is better for you is completely subjective as to what you are looking for. The main difference between the two is the slightly "springier" feel of the Simba.

Nectar Vs Simba For Couples

Here's, maybe more than ever, where personal preferences come into play between a hybrid feel or an all-foam feel. When you're sleeping next to someone it's not only your own preferences that you need to take into consideration but also your partners. And not only that. It's also important to look at how you both normally sleep to decide which type of mattress is more suitable.

If one of you is a restless sleeper it could be good to consider the Nectar as memory foam mattresses tend to absorb motion better than hybrid mattresses. That being said, hybrid mattresses can be the better mattress for sex as they will provide a bit more bounce to the matter. Have a think about what your bed routines look like before making your choice.

Nectar Motion Isolation

Our tests showed excellent results in motion isolation for the Nectar mattress as you can see in the video. No liquid was spilt despite our heavy bouncing on the opposite side of the mattress, meaning that even if you have a restless partner your rest shouldn't be interrupted.

Simba Motion Isolation

We know by now that the Simba Hybrid contains a layer of springs that makes it a little bit bouncier than the Nectar mattress which could potentially be noticeable if your partner is tossing and turning at night. However, our tests showed very little difference from the Nectar which is the positive effect of the very small springs.

Both mattresses isolate movement very well, despite one of them being a slightly bouncier hybrid mattress. If you aren't usually disturbed by your partner's movements (or vice versa) any of the two would be a good option for you. However, if anyone tends to get disturbed easily we would recommend the Nectar mattress.

Pressure Relief Comparison

Pressure relief refers to the mattresses ability to take pressure off the points where we place most of our weight, such as around the hips and the shoulders. Memory foam mattresses tend to be very good at pressure relief but keeping in mind that the Simba Hybrid contains a very small percentage of springs compared to the foam we had high hopes for this one too.

Our tests for pressure relief on the two mattresses showed quite similar results in most of the positions and very positive results overall. None of the sleeping positions showed any worrying levels of pressure for any of the two mattresses but we can see a slightly higher result around the mid-section of the body for front sleepers on the Nectar mattress.

Nectar Pressure Relief Results

Simba Pressure Relief Results

Yet again both mattresses show similar results, making it difficult to pick a clear winner. Our tests showed that a normal-sized person can sleep comfortably in most positions on both mattresses but we believe that the Nectar might lack a bit of support around the mid-section for heavier individuals who sleep on their front.
