Nectar vs Simba Mattress Construction

Cover Comparison

This is the only mattress we have reviewed so far that has a gel-infused memory foam layer quilted into the top panel of the cover. The cover is made from Tencel and cotton. Tencel is produced by environmentally responsible processes from the sustainably sourced natural raw material wood. It is also super soft if we may add. The bottom half of the cover incorporates non-slip elements so your mattress stays in place all throughout the night.

The new re-engineered Simba cover is now removable and can be machine washed at up to 40 degrees Celcius. It is made from 100% polyester which gives it a stretchy feel to it and happens to make it easier to remove and put back after washing.

Verdict - In terms of practicability, the Simba cover is far easier to maintain in today's hectic world however, in terms of comfort and feel we will have to give it to the Nectar mattress. It is also important to mention that both covers are hypoallergenic which means they are both unlikely to cause any sort of allergic reaction.

Materials and Layer Comparison

The Nectar mattress is made up of 2 memory foam layers plus a supportive base:

  • Top Smart Sleep layer - This is Nectar's so-called smart sleep layer which is a unique memory foam layer that has been proven to be 30 times more breathable than traditional memory foam.
  • Intermediary memory foam layer - Used to transition pressure disparities seamlessly throughout the mattress ensuring optimal spinal alignment.
  • Polyurethane base layer - Provides necessary support and includes cut out channels to allow for more give in the shoulder and hip areas.

Inside the Simba Hybrid Mattress you will find 4 unique layers:

  • Synthetic latex layer - This synthetic latex layer incorporates natural cooling soybean balms, making this layer very soft and breathable. Synthetic latex is not the same as natural latex.
  • Conical pocket springs - These are mini conical springs which add a bit of bounce to the mattress. The Simba Hybrid has up to 2,500 springs in a king size mattress.
  • Memory foam layer - This slow responsive foam helps the mattress to conform to your body.
  • Polyfoam base foam - Adds support and includes zoning areas to allow for more sinkage for extruding areas like the hip and shoulder area to ensure optimal spinal alignment.

Verdict - This is most probably the most difficult aspect to compare as the Nectar is a memory foam mattress and the Simba a hybrid. Nevertheless, we feel the Simba mattress may be a more balanced mattress offering the benefit of unique foam compositions and mini pocket springs whereas the Nectar mattress would be better for those looking for a foam only mattress with less bounce.

Nectar vs Simba Firmness & Feel

From our Nectar mattress review, we have given it a 6.5/10 in terms of firmness. This is mainly because the foams used with the Nectar are more durable than regular foams.

The mix of foam and pocket springs gives the mattress a comfortable and responsive feel. Yet still supportive enough to balance out your bodyweight evenly.  We placed it at 6.5/10 on the firmness scale.

Verdict - Both Nectar and Simba offer a relatively equal feeling mattress. This is a common placement for all online mattresses sold in a box as they appeal to the majority of sleepers in the UK. Which mattress is better for you is completely subjective as to what you are looking for.
