Sonno Review: Every Model, Scored
A brand selling essentially one mattress rather than a range, which is unusual enough to be worth examining.

Verdict
A brand selling essentially one mattress rather than a range, which is unusual enough to be worth examining. A single-model range is not a limitation so much as a different commercial bet, and it has one genuine advantage over a tiered lineup.
Buy it if
You want a straightforward mid-market mattress and you find tiered ranges more confusing than helpful.
Avoid it if
You need a specific firmness or a specification outside what one mattress can be. One model cannot suit everyone.

| Specification | Detail |
|---|---|
| Range | Essentially one mattress |
| The advantage | No internal price ladder designed to push you up a tier |
| The limitation | One firmness cannot suit every body weight and sleeping position |
| Trial | Offered. Confirm the current terms and the returns route. |
| What to verify | Depth, spring count and firmness, as with any brand |
The scores
A clear proposition, with the limitation that one mattress cannot suit everyone.
Reasonable. A single model avoids the anchoring games of a tiered range.
Adequate at average build. Check the specification against your weight.
Depends on the construction. Ask about the spring layer.
Not usually reinforced at this level.
Adequate. Worth checking against your own requirements.
A trial is offered. Verify the terms and who collects.
What a one-mattress range actually buys you
Most brands sell three to seven models, and across this site two patterns recur in essentially every one of them.
The entry model is priced to flatter the one above it. Simba's Hybrid Essential at 549 pounds scores 5.2 here, the lowest mattress score on this site, and it exists as an anchor rather than to compete against the market.
The flagship runs into better competition. At the top of a range the price has risen into a bracket where other brands compete directly.
A single-model brand cannot play either game. There is no cheaper version to make this one look reasonable and no dearer one to upsell you to, so the price has to stand against the market rather than against a stablemate.
That is a genuine structural advantage, and it is why a one-mattress brand is worth taking seriously rather than assuming it is a thin range.
And the obvious limitation
One mattress cannot be right for everyone, because firmness is experienced differently depending on your weight.
A mattress compresses until its resistance matches your weight. A ten stone sleeper reaches that point in the first few centimetres and finds it firm. An eighteen stone sleeper compresses further and finds the same mattress soft.
So a single medium-firm mattress works well for the middle of the range and less well at either end. Under about ten stone you may find it unyielding at the shoulder; over about sixteen you will want more support than one specification can offer.
That makes the sleep trial more important here than usual, because there is no alternative model to exchange into. Check whether it is a genuine sleep trial or a returns window on an unused mattress, which are different things described in similar words.
What to compare it against
The straightforward single-model proposition competes directly with several UK brands.
Origin Hybrid at 265 pounds with up to 3,000 pocket springs and a 200 day trial. Otty Original at around 500 with a 16 centimetre spring core. Nectar for the 365 night trial, the longest in the UK mainstream.
And do the four free checks on any brand: Companies House, guarantee against trading history, trial terms rather than trial length, and specification rather than adjectives.
A correction worth making
Commonly repeated, and wrong
Brands with a single mattress are assumed to offer less choice than tiered ranges, and the structure removes two pricing games that recur across almost every multi-model lineup. A range's entry model is typically priced to make the tier above look reasonable, and its flagship has risen into a bracket where other brands compete directly. With one model there is no stablemate to anchor against, so the price stands against the market instead.
Should you buy it?
Reasonable if you want a straightforward mid-market mattress and you are of average build, where a single medium-firm specification works best.
Check the trial terms carefully, because with one model there is nothing to exchange into. Under ten stone or over sixteen, a brand with a firmness range will serve you better.
Questions people ask
Is a one-mattress brand a limitation?
It is a different commercial bet. With one model there is no cheaper version to make it look reasonable and no dearer one to upsell you to, so the price has to stand against the market rather than against a stablemate.
Can one mattress suit everyone?
No. A mattress compresses until its resistance matches your weight, so a ten stone sleeper finds it firm and an eighteen stone sleeper finds the same mattress soft. A single medium-firm specification works best for the middle of the range.
