Buy it if

Three cases where cheap is the right call
A guest room. Guests have different requirements from each other, so nothing you buy will be right for all of them. Two medium pillows per bed, so a side sleeper can stack and a front sleeper can discard, is the hotel solution and it works. Spending more achieves nothing.
Replacing a pillow you liked. If you know the height and fill that worked and it has flattened, buy the same thing again. You are not solving a problem, you are restoring a known state.
Testing a height. If you suspect you need a higher or lower pillow, a cheap one at that height answers the question for a few pounds before you commit to an expensive one.
And the case where it is not. Your main pillow, when you do not know your loft. A cheap fixed pillow is a guess at the one specification that decides whether a pillow works, and buying three of them costs more than one adjustable pillow that removes the guess.
Treat a synthetic pillow as a consumable
Synthetic fills tangle and compact with use and washing. The symptom is uneven density rather than simple flatness, with dense areas and hollow ones, and plumping redistributes it temporarily without undoing it.
The fold test. Fold it in half and let go. If it springs back it still has structure. If it stays folded, it is done.
Expect one to two years. That is not a flaw so much as the trade: a pillow you can wash and replace cheaply is a reasonable proposition, provided you actually replace it.
You are not sleeping on the pillow, you are sleeping on the case. A cheap polyester case insulates and holds moisture against the skin, which is what people actually experience as sleeping hot. Cotton percale or lyocell costs a fraction of the pillow and does more for how cool it feels than the choice between pillow types.
