Nectar Premier Memory Foam Mattress Review

A deeper, better-made version of Nectar's entry foam mattress, and still an all-foam mattress at a price where springs are available.

Verdict

6.4/ 10From £399 UK single

A deeper, better-made version of Nectar's entry foam mattress, and still an all-foam mattress at a price where springs are available. Twenty-eight centimetres is generous and the motion isolation is excellent. Everything else about it is the standard foam compromise.

Buy it if

You specifically want foam for the motion isolation, you sleep with someone restless, and you want a year to be sure.

Avoid it if

You sleep hot, you sit on the edge, or you are over about fifteen stone.

The scores

Overall
6.4 / 10

Nectar's best foam mattress, and foam is the wrong answer at this price.

Value
6 / 10

Three hundred and ninety-nine pounds buys a genuine spring core elsewhere.

Support
7 / 10

Twenty-eight centimetres is a lot of foam to compress. Fine at average build.

Temperature
5 / 10

No named airflow structure and 28cm of foam. It will run warm.

Edge support
4 / 10

All foam, no reinforcement. Standard for the category and still a real limitation.

Twenty-eight centimetres of foam. Nothing transmits. The genuine reason to buy it.

Twenty-eight centimetres of foam, and what that gets you

Depth on a foam mattress does something different from depth on a hybrid, and it is worth understanding before you pay for it.

On a hybrid, extra depth usually means taller springs or another spring layer, which improves support and airflow. On an all-foam mattress, extra depth means more foam, which improves pressure relief and motion isolation and makes the heat problem slightly worse rather than better.

So the Premier's 28 centimetres against the Classic's 25 buys you a more cushioned, more isolating mattress. It does not buy you a cooler or better supported one. If motion isolation is why you want foam, this is the right upgrade. If you were hoping the extra depth fixes the heat, it does not.

When foam is genuinely the right answer

I recommend hybrids repeatedly on this site, so it is worth being clear about when foam wins, because it does.

Deep foam beats any sprung mattress on motion isolation. If your partner gets up at five, or moves constantly, or you have a child who climbs in at three in the morning, a foam mattress absorbs that movement in a way springs cannot. No hybrid at any price matches 28 centimetres of foam on this measure.

That is a real and specific reason to choose this mattress, and if it describes your situation then the heat and edge compromises may well be worth accepting.

A correction worth making

Commonly repeated, and wrong

Extra depth is widely presented as an unqualified upgrade across mattress marketing, and on an all-foam mattress it is not. More foam improves pressure relief and motion isolation while making heat retention marginally worse, because heat has more insulating material to escape through. A 28 centimetre foam mattress does not sleep cooler than a 25 centimetre one, and anyone implying otherwise is selling depth rather than explaining it.

Should you buy it?

Buy it if motion isolation is your specific problem and you want a year to confirm it. In that narrow case it is a good mattress and the trial makes it a safe purchase.

Otherwise, 399 pounds buys the Otty Aura with a genuine spring core, or nearly the Origin Hybrid Pro at 374 with 31 centimetres and up to 5,700 springs.

Questions people ask

Does a deeper foam mattress sleep cooler?

No, slightly warmer. On a hybrid, extra depth usually means taller springs and better airflow. On an all-foam mattress it means more foam, which improves pressure relief and motion isolation while giving heat more insulating material to escape through.

When is memory foam better than a hybrid?

Motion isolation. If your partner gets up early, moves constantly, or a child climbs in at three in the morning, 28cm of foam absorbs that movement in a way no sprung mattress at any price can match. That is a real and specific reason to choose foam.
